Edison Pearls - A Revolution in Large Pearl Necklaces

Until recently freshwater pearls were solely made up of nacre, the growth of the pearl being triggered by inserting a sliver of mantle into the mollusc. In contrast Saltwater Pearls, such as South Sea, Tahitian and Akoya Pearls, had their pearl growth triggered by inserting a bead into the mollusc. The result of these differing methods was that bead nucleated Salt Water pearls could create far larger, round pearls, commanding higher prices.

Around 4 years ago research in China perfected the process of bead nucleating freshwater pearls, creating large pearls, up to 15mm, with a beautiful metallic lustre, plus much rounder and smoother than previous attempts. This new class of pearl is routinely known as Edison Pearls, or Ming Pearls. They represent great quality and value for money being used to create stunning large pearl necklaces.

Our gorgeous pearl necklace features 13-14mm white near round Edison Pearls (Ming Pearls) with a stunning metallic lustre, and is 17” in length. Typically pearl necklaces of this size can be hugely expensive, however we have this necklace on offer at £499.95, versus an RRP of £749.95.

In addition we've a beautiful pastel pink necklace featuring large Edison Pearls with a 14ct gold clasp
